Why Fifth Wheels Are Different

A Fifth Wheel Is Harder to Sell — and That’s the Whole Problem

A 5th wheel isn’t a travel trailer you can hook to any half-ton and drag across town. It needs a pickup with a bed hitch, the right rating, and somebody who knows how to back a 36-foot unit through a park lane. That knocks out most private buyers before they ever see it. So the unit sits — in a storage yard, at a seasonal site, or beside the house — racking up lot rent while the roof ages another Florida summer.

I buy fifth wheels specifically. Bighorn, Cougar, Montana, Sandpiper, Presidential, Road Warrior, Cardinal, Sierra, Raptor and everything in between, from short bunkhouse units to long full-timer rigs with four slides. You don’t need a truck, a hitch, or a plan for where it goes. That part is mine.

Situations I deal with all the time

  • No capable tow vehicle anymore. The diesel got sold, traded, or was never yours to begin with. Very common, and not a problem.
  • The unit lives in an RV park or storage lot. Monthly rent on something you no longer use is the reason most people finally call.
  • Slide-outs, roof or appliances need work. A slide that won’t retract, a patched or soft roof, delamination, a dead fridge or A/C — tell me and we price it as it is.
  • Inherited or estate units. A parent’s rig you never wanted and can’t move. I handle these gently and patiently.
  • Seasonal units left behind. Set up on a site you’re giving up, and towing it north makes no sense.
  • Title or lien questions. Lost title, a lien still on file, or paperwork in someone else’s name — usually workable, and always sorted before the sale is completed.

Hitch & Access

Getting It Out Is My Job, Not Yours

The logistics that stop other buyers are the part I actually handle.

Before pickup day I want to know how the unit is sitting and how I get to it, so nothing goes sideways when I show up. A few minutes of detail on the phone saves a wasted trip for both of us.

  • Gate codes, office hours, or a park manager who needs notice
  • How tight the lane, turn or neighbor spacing is
  • Whether it’s on blocks, jacks, or has flat or dry-rotted tires
  • Whether the landing gear and pin box are usable
  • Skirting, decks, sheds or utilities attached to the unit
  • Whether the slides can be brought in, or need to travel out

I bring the truck, the hitch and the gear. If something needs a different setup, I’ll tell you straight instead of guessing.

Central Florida Coverage

Where I Come to the Unit

Davenport is home base, so Kissimmee, Lakeland, Orlando, Winter Haven and Haines City are all short runs, and I travel the rest of Central Florida regularly along I-4 and the Polk County corridor. RV resorts, seasonal parks, 55+ communities, storage yards and private property all work — I come to the fifth wheel rather than asking you to move it.

Headed north for the summer and don’t want to tow the rig home? That has its own page: selling your RV before moving north.

Fifth Wheel FAQ

Questions From 5th Wheel Owners

Yes — that is the single most common reason people call about a 5th wheel. You do not need a tow vehicle, a hitch, or anywhere to move it to. I bring the truck and the hitch and pull it out myself after the sale is complete.

I do. Slides that stick or won't retract, a roof that has been patched, soft spots, a dead fridge, A/C or water heater, or a unit that has been sitting through a few Florida summers are all normal for what I buy. Show me the problem areas in the photos so the offer we discuss is realistic from the start.

Not at all. Most of the units I look at are in RV parks, campgrounds, seasonal resorts, 55+ communities or storage yards. I just need to know the access situation ahead of time — gate codes or office hours, how tight the lane is, whether the unit is on blocks, and whether the park needs notice before a unit leaves.

Bring it to me anyway. Inherited and estate units are common, and a missing title, a lien, or paperwork in someone else's name is usually workable. Tell me what you have and we will sort out what Florida requires before the sale is completed. For legal or estate advice, please talk with a professional.

Year, make, model, length, how many slides, condition inside and out, title status, and the exact location with access notes. Exterior photos from all four corners plus interior shots and any damage close-ups let me give you a serious number quickly.
