Battery health is huge: a fresh set of batteries or a healthy lithium pack can be worth over a thousand dollars on its own, while a dead pack drags the value down. Brand counts too — Club Car, E-Z-GO and Yamaha hold value best, with newer names like ICON, Bintelli and Star popular in the communities.
Then there’s street-legal status. A registered, street-legal LSV (low-speed vehicle) with lights, seat belts, turn signals and a VIN is worth more than a private-use-only cart. And upgrades add up: a lift kit, custom wheels, a rear seat, a good stereo, a windshield and a cover all bump the price. A tired, bone-stock cart with dead batteries sits at the bottom of the range; a clean, street-legal lithium cart with upgrades sits at the top.
Community Rules to Know Before You Sell
Selling inside a 55+ community comes with a few local wrinkles. Many HOAs and community associations have rules about posting “for sale” signs, and some limit where a buyer can test-drive a cart on community paths. In The Villages, carts used on the paths need to meet the district’s equipment rules, and a street-legal LSV has to be properly titled and registered to be sold as street-legal. If you’re selling on behalf of a family member or an estate, keep the documentation handy so the transfer is clean. When in doubt, a buyer who works these communities regularly already knows the ropes.
